It will be remembered for the Iraq War
Like all preceeding years, year 2003 is nearing an end. A less than couple of days more from now and we bid bye to it overwhwlmed with joy of welcoming the New Year. Year 2003 will soon be history, away from common interest, with memories both pleasant and tragic in nature.
Talking of history: yes, year 2003 will deserve a distinct place. Political upheavels, social turmoil, natural calamities and moral epidemics which occur in a year are all region specific.Quite a number of such occurances tainted the year, painted it gray making many people unhappy in many places.
But one massive event that qualifies the year 2003 for a place in the circle of 'historical years'is the war on Iraq, to be more specific America's war on Iraq.
We were told nothing was fine inside Iraq: it was despotic autocracy with oppressive noose strangling the democratic aspirations of the civil society and breeding WMDs which are so detrimental to the sheer existance of the world around. So, there was war. America (say, USA) flew all the way to invade Iraq and conquer it.
Dear friends, has a single unit of WMD been discovered from the soil of Iraq as yet ? Has the democratic aspirations of the Iraqis been given vent till date ? The simple answer is 'No' The war propaganda was needed to prepare ground for the invasion.
Every sovereign country reserves the right to govern itself without external interference, Whether governance is good and deserves to be continued or bad and warrants a change , the decision should remain the prerogative of the people of that country. There is no dearth of wisdom anywhere in the universe. Even the less developed, the least educated and the ill previleged countries have wise citizens who are endowed with prudent judgement and valour to effect changes. A developed, an enlightened and an affluent society should not and must not assume the role of a saviour, If it does so, that is svagery
Year 2003 will always be remembered for the Iraq War that trampled sovreignty and fundamental rights of a nation and honour of its children.
